1. The Met150 Design Contest consists of three categories:
(1) adults ages 18 years and older;
(2) teens ages 13-17; and
(3) kids ages 6-12.
2. From April 12, 2019, through June 13, 2019, we will be accepting entries for all three age categories via The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s website at https://metmuseum.org/150/contest.
3. Entries must include a completed Certificate of Eligibility and Publicity Release at the time of submission. In the event of a failure to submit the Certificate of Eligibility and Publicity Release in a timely manner, the Museum may reject an entry. For finalists under age 18, the Certificate of Eligibility and Publicity Release must be completed by a parent or legal guardian.
4. At the close of the submission period, all entries will be published to the Museum’s website, and the public will be invited to vote for their favorites. Votes will be accepted from June 14, 2019, through August 12, 2019. Limit one vote per entry per person. The 10 submissions with the most votes in each age category will be named as finalists.
5. Around August 13, 2019, a selection of 30 finalists (10 finalists in each age category) will be announced on the Museum’s website. Finalists will be notified by email at the address provided on the Entry Form.
6. All 30 finalist submissions will be reviewed by a celebrity judging panel and judged based on originality and creative merit. Around September 9, 2019, the six winning designs (two winners in each age category) will be announced on the Museum’s website and social media accounts as determined by the panel of judges. Winners will be notified by email at the address provided on the Entry Form.
7. Around April 13, 2020, The Met Store will release products inspired by the six winning designs.
You can vote for as many designs as you like, but can only submit one vote per design for the duration of the contest.
You may vote for any design (including your own); however, entrants get only one vote per design. Creating alternate email accounts to vote will disqualify you from the contest. To generate votes, share the social share buttons to send a link to your entry, or send the URL directly.
Anyone age 13 or older is eligible to vote; simply enter your email address to register. While we won’t share your information with any third parties, we’ll be updating you from time to time on news about the contest as well as the Museum. Choosing to opt out of receiving such messages won’t affect your entry in any way.
Each judge will bring his or her unique perspective on design and creativity when reviewing the designs, looking for the most distinctive and forward-looking creations to name as winners.
We'll count on all submitters to abide by the honor system. However, all 30 finalists will be required to verify their ages for their submissions to be eligible to win. (Don’t worry: We won’t publish or share this information—but we do want to ensure honesty and fairness.)
Please visit The Met for events at which you can ask questions and get started creating your design: May 12, Met Family Afternoon; May 31, Teens Take The Met; or June 11, Museum Mile. Note that these sessions offer access to basic art-making materials and assistance with uploading your submission; they do not confer any advantage in the design competition
Please reach out to met150@wishpond.com and continue to check our FAQ section as we will be updating this page periodically based on your questions.
Submissions must be PNG or JPG/JPEG files, with a 1:1 aspect ratio and a minimum of 1000x1000px.

You may use as many reference points as you wish, as long as all are Open Access artworks in The Met collection.
Whatever you can think up, in whatever medium—provided that your design references an Open Access artwork in The Met collection and can be conveyed in a JPG or PNG file. Examples include (but are hardly limited to) paintings, drawings, sketches, graphic files, photographs, pattern designs, product blueprints, illustrations, collages, digital artworks, and etchings. You are also welcome to create a three-dimensional object such a sculpture or garment, photograph it, and submit a JPG file.
Expect to receive an email confirmation that your submission was received. If you don’t see an email immediately, don’t panic; it may take up to five business days to receive confirmation, or it may have ended up in your junk folder.
